and since known as a very innovative and unique
Architectural Practice. As an innovative architect, Abebaw invests his time
on developing ideas for clients that leads to practical solutions to any given
design challenges. His unique design methods and techniques are not only just flagships of his practice but also creating comfortable, visually pleasant
and functional spaces that benefits the occupants, and the wider
society, with everlasting added value. The practice provides services from
conception to completion.
Abebaw M Meri, the Principal Architect, studied
Architecture first at University of East London and acquired Bsc (Hons) in 1996
and then specialised in Advanced Environment and Energy Study In Architecture
in 1998 and obtained Msc while he was working as a designer in a medium
size company. His first responsibility as a designer involved various specialised building elements, space planning and interior
design. Having married in late 1997, and his unique design talent beginning to attract wider attentions, he became very busy in the design
studio. At his first practical responsibility as a senior designer, Abebaw spent most
of his time between 1999 and 2001 detailing building elements for schools, apartments, commercial buildings and the London Underground , whilst concurrently providing complete interior design and space planning for famous restaurants and bars. He
also won a competition and designed a special display stand for one of the biggest Film Processing Laboratory in the Country, to revolutionize the new digital printing
technology. The display stands were placed at every main Airport in UK and some Service
station around the Country, and has since become a prototype for other marketing display stands.
In the year 2001 Abebaw joined a small Architectural Practice in West London in furthering his organic design philosophy within the
sphere of predominately residential design. He Joined RIBA OBE programme at Oxford School of
Architecture and obtained his post Graduate Diploma and RIBA Part 2 in 2003. In 2005
he obtained his RIBA Part 3 (PGc in Professional Practice in Architecture) from University
of Westminster, and elected as full chartered member of RIBA (Royal Institute of British
Architects) and registered to practice as an Architect with ARB.
Having had 11 years of diverse design experiences, Abebaw
then established his own practice in May 2007, concentrating more in one-off
houses, high-end apartments, commercial buildings and interior design in earnest. His first design commission at his new practice was to design a large 7 bed room luxury house in Moor Park Private Estate in 2007.He has since designed over 120 buildings under
his new practice, including a large Industrial building In Liverpool with a
contract value of £3.5M. In 2012, he designed a new Code 4 standard (CSH) house in London using Ground Source Heat Pump, Photo-voltaic Panel, Rain Water Harvesting system and other efficient building materials, to minimise the use of Fossil fuel, and to create environmentally more sustainable buildings.
One of Abebaw’s strength is the ability to
understand client’s need and guide them to achieve the most practical and
unique living or working spaces. His design technique not only stretches the traditional building geometry, but also the boundary of
building materials. It also stretches the imagination of the builders in translating his design. Introduction of organic
geometry in the design adds flavour to Abebaw’s design solution, while it pave the way to enjoyable fluid movements within the building. His knowledge in Advanced
Environmental Technology in Architecture benefits his clients to build the most sustainable and
efficient buildings.
